Abijah

Abijah
The best-known of four OT characters of this name was the son and successor of Rehoboam. He was king of Judah (911–908 BCE), after the disruption of the state into the separate kingdoms of Israel and Judah. The editor of the book of Kings has no good word for him (1 Kgs. 15:3) but the revisionist history in the book of Chronicles (2 Chron. 13:19) records military successes against the apostate Jeroboam. He ‘grew strong’ (13:21)—and took fourteen wives.
